If it rained right after my application will the treatment still be effective?
For most products, rainfall before or after an application typically enhances the effectiveness of your TruGreen application. Water is vital for proper plant health and aids in carrying nutrients into the soil so they can be absorbed by a plant’s root system. Water also activates preemergent weed control and sub-surface insect control. TruGreen applications won’t wash away once they are absorbed by the plant or watered into the soil.
How long will it take for weeds to disappear after my TruGreen service begins?
Every weed is different, and some weeds are more difficult to control than others. For most weeds, you’ll begin to see a decline within 10-14 days. Typical signs of effective weed control include discoloration, twisting and withering. However, for species of weeds that are more difficult to control, multiple visits and/or specialized products may be required for effective control, which is why continuing the program year-round is the best way to get the desired results.
What happens if TruGreen misses a scheduled appointment?
We do our absolute best to ensure our specialists service your property during the time window allocated for your appointment. However, we occasionally miss this appointment window, typically because of weather or extended time spent with valued customers like yourself. Rest assured, if we miss an appointment, we will reschedule your service as soon as possible so that your property receives the care it deserves. You can request to adjust your schedule through the mobile app or by visiting TruGreen.com.
Why is there a difference between the bill I received and what I signed up for?
It’s important to us to provide transparency in how you’re being billed and to ensure you are billed only for what you’ve signed up for. With that said, one of the most frequent billing confusions occurs if you have multiple services delivered during the same visit. In this case, a TruGreen specialist may have performed multiple services that are seasonally appropriate while on your property, for example, a fertilization and a grub control, which will impact the invoice you receive. If you have any concerns, please start by checking the Payments section of your Account Summary on TruGreen.com, or in the TruGreen mobile app, for details about what services were performed and billed.
What should I do if I think TruGreen forgot to treat part of my property?
If you believe the specialist may have missed treating an area on your property, we suggest you monitor the area for 10-14 days. If you're still concerned about the effectiveness of the treatment,. please feel free to chat in with us using your TruGreen mobile app or by visiting TruGreen.com, or by calling Customer Care at 1-800-464-0171.
What should I know about brown or bare spots that may develop on my lawn after service?
Weeds will compete with the grass on your lawn for nutrients and sunlight. Once weeds are selectively targeted during the TruGreen treatment process, brown and bare areas may develop and create a short-term void until the desired grass reclaims the ground. TruGreen’s goal is to then replace these brown or bare spots with healthy turf, and this will happen over time.
Brown or bare spots can also be related to weather, soil conditions, weed decline, disease or insect pressure. If you notice these areas are getting more pronounced, a TruGreen expert can help identify the issue.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my first service?
Please make sure to allow access to your property by keeping gates unlocked and pets inside your home on scheduled service days. Check out the What to Expect video clip below for more information around preparing for that first visit.
Do I need to be home for my first visit?
We would love to see you and speak with you about your lawn if you are home. If you can’t be home for your visit, we’ll leave a service summary at your front door (or send it via text or email, based on your communication preference selected), and email you with details about the services we’ve performed. Your service summary is also available after every appointment at TruGreen.com or on the TruGreen mobile app.
Reminder: please allow access to your property by keeping gates unlocked and pets inside.
Should I water my lawn before or after an application?
We recommend watering your lawn with 1 inch of water within 48 hours after an application, except in the event of a modest rainfall. This will help deliver the nutrients to the roots where your grass can actively utilize it, which will help achieve optimal results from our lawn application.
When can families and pets return to serviced areas?
After a service, TruGreen advises customers to allow the application to dry before families and pets resume enjoying their lawns. Although highly dependent upon temperature and humidity, most liquid products TruGreen uses dry within 1-2 hours.
My weeds seem to have grown bigger since you treated my lawn. What's going on?
Some weeds may show accelerated growth during a specific time in their lifecycle. Your weeds will typically start to decline in 10-14 days, but challenging weeds may take additional treatments for complete control. Your weeds may also be showing accelerated growth because of the application of grass fertilizer. TruGreen will apply weed control solutions separately to eliminate weeds, but your weed treatment will be on a different timeline.
Weeds started appearing after you applied pre-emergent. How come?
Pre-emergent applications are timed to target and prevent specific weeds from flourishing after germination has occurred. Unfortunately, not all weeds are controlled using a pre-emergent product but will be treated with post-emergent weed applications. Customers find that continuing the program from season to season and year to year is the best way to maintain the lawn's appearance.
What are some lawn watering tips?
Your lawn usually requires 1-2” of water per week, depending on factors like soil type, temperature, and humidity. We recommend long, infrequent watering (1-2 times per week). Your soil should be moist to a depth of 6-12” after a watering. For best results, water early in the morning. At midday, more water evaporates than goes into the soil. Evening watering invites trouble because plants that stay wet overnight can be more prone to developing certain diseases that thrive in moist conditions. Click here to see a video for more on watering techniques.
How often should I mow my lawn?
The best guide for mowing frequency is the growth of your grass. When lawns are actively growing it may require mowing more than once a week. To avoid stressing the grass, cut off no more than 1/3 (one-third) of the leaf blade at a time. Keep in mind that certain grasses, such as Bermuda grass, Zoysia grass and Centipede grass, require close mowing to stay healthy. Allowing these grasses to grow too high will increase thatch in your lawn. Click here to see a video for more on best mowing practices.

Will I receive multiple applications during one visit if I purchased any additional services?
It’s important for us to apply the right products at the right time for best results. If you purchase a lawn program and any additional programs, like Tree & Shrub Care, TruShieldSM Lawn Pest Control, or Mosquito Defense, these may be done on the same day. Your specialist could perform your lawn service, and then perform your mosquito service while on your property. Sometimes multiple lawn applications will be performed at once to ensure your lawn gets the proper treatment it needs. If you are set up on our EasyPay, you will be billed for both services at the same time.
I downloaded the TruGreen mobile app, but I can't log in.

How long should it take for a specialist to complete an application?
Our specialists are expert-trained and our specialized equipment is designed to treat 1,000 sq. ft. in just one minute. TruGreen's calibrated technology ensures your lawn always receives the right amount of care (ex. proper nutrients, right amount of product applied, right amount of time spent applying product) it needs to thrive. This enables TruGreen to consistently provide a healthy, green, great looking lawn for our customers.
When should I expect to see results?
Your lawn will benefit from a consistent, year-round plan to achieve a lush, healthy, weed-free lawn. Depending on the condition of your lawn, it can take time to have a great lawn. As your specialist spends more time working on your lawn, your lawn’s appearance will continue to improve.
Weeds are best treated before they germinate with pre-emergent weed control, which is applied in the fall to warm season grasses and in the spring to cool season grasses. Post-emergent weed control can be applied to visible weeds, and will begin to see a decline within 10-14 days and several weeks for them disappear. For weeds that are difficult to control, multiple visits or specialized products may be required to gain acceptable control.
A combination of fertilization and adequate watering will help ensure your lawn receives the proper nutrition and hydration it needs to thrive. Depending on your soil PH, a soil amendment may be needed to ensure a healthy foundation for growth. The timing of such applications and expectations for results will vary by region. Plus, lawn-damaging insect control can help keep grubs or chinch bugs from damaging your healthy turf.
Your lawn may also benefit from aeration and overseeding, where appropriate, to allow the roots access to air, nutrients and water. This will help achieve a thicker, healthier lawn that can crowd out weeds from gaining a foothold in the spring.
Every lawn and its challenges are unique, and we will provide progress updates and special instructions for your lawn at each service visit.
Is my TruGreen lawn service guaranteed?
Yes. Customers who have a full program plan in place with TruGreen benefit from our Trugreen Guarantee®, which means we’ll gladly re-visit your property between scheduled visits at no additional cost to make necessary adjustments to deliver quality results with your lawn.
What type of seed is used for overseeding treatment?
TruGreen focuses on grass seed varieties that are best suited for your geographical area and the grass-type in your lawn. The seed applied to TruGreen customers' lawns has excellent purity and expected germination potential. These high quality seed varieties have shown improved disease and drought tolerance in university trials.
Why can't you spray the weeds near my flower beds?
We cannot spray weeds in the flower beds, because the products we use are labeled for use in lawns and may cause harm to plants in your flower beds. We keep a buffer around flowers and landscape plants since our lawn applications focus on controlling weeds in your lawn.
What seasonal Tree & Shrub services are provided by TruGreen?
TruGreen knows that the foundation of any successful plant health care plan is fertilization, which we offer twice a year during the spring and fall to achieve optimal results. We also know that the timing of foliar and bark protection services (for insects & disease control) should be seasonal and vary by region to target the life-cycles of specific pests, diseases and challenging seasons where plants face environmental stresses. This is why we offer multiple insect & disease applications from early spring through the fall. Added winter protection treatments, such as dormant horticultural oils and anti-desiccation sprays, are offered in many regions with colder climates and shorter growing seasons to help trees and shrubs stand up to the harsher conditions during the winter months, while reducing pest populations the subsequent year.
What is the timeframe between tree and shrub applications?
The timeframe between tree and shrub applications varies and is often adjusted based on current horticultural conditions. Fertilization is performed once in the spring and once in the fall and may be performed at the same time as our foliar and bark protections (insect & disease control) visits, which are normally spaced out every 4-6 weeks, based on pest and disease activity. Other applications for specialized treatments may occur more frequently.
Is my TruGreen Tree and Shrub service guaranteed?
Yes. Customers benefit from our Trugreen Guarantee®, which means we will gladly re-visit your property between scheduled visits at no additional cost to make necessary adjustments to deliver quality results for your trees and shrubs.
When should I expect to see results?
Taking care of your trees and shrubs is a long-term investment. The time it takes to see results varies based on the unique needs of your trees & shrubs and on the conditions of your property. It normally takes a full year to achieve visible results – improved foliage density, flowering and overall vigor. Rest assured that while on our program, your trees & shrubs are gaining the vital nutrients and protection they need throughout the seasons to help guard against common pests and to promote a healthy landscape for years to come.
How long should it take for a specialist to complete an application?
Our specialists are trained and equipped to inspect each plant in order to provide treatment in a highly efficient, yet effective manner. The length of time it takes to provide service varies greatly based on property size and the number of plants requiring treatment. Also, not all applications are the same, so the time to complete your service will vary based on the type of treatment.
Pests are now gone – does that mean I no longer need the service?
Different pests affect different plants at different times during the growing season. In addition, many pests will have several generations per year, which means they may come back even after successful initial treatment. Ongoing monitoring and treatment will help ensure pests do not cause significant damage. Also, damage will vary from year to year and is impossible to predict, so cancelling your service now will leave your plants susceptible to future problems. TruGreen's continuous service will help ensure the health of your landscape plants both today and for the future.
Why didn’t the specialist treat every single tree or shrub on my property?
Not every plant on the landscape is susceptible to the same insect and disease pressures. If we skipped a plant, that means there weren't any significant issues that needed to be controlled during that particular visit. Each time we come to your property, we target and treat only those plants that are susceptible to insect or disease problems at that particular time of year.
Why didn’t the specialist spray my rose bushes or backyard fruit trees?
Some plants, like the hybrid tea rose, as well as backyard fruits/vegetables and garden plants, are very sensitive and susceptible to pests of which we cannot guarantee control. For that reason, we do not offer treatments for these types of plants as part of our Tree & Shrub service.
How does TruGreen treat for mosquitoes, and do you spray my lawn?
TruGreen Mosquito Defense uses an innovative formula combined with a targeted application technique to significantly reduce the number of biting adult mosquitoes in your landscape for up to 30 days. Mosquitoes generally seek out shelter in shrubs, mulch, and woodpiles to avoid sun during the day. For the treatment to be effective, we target these areas to ensure we provide effective control. Since the lawn doesn't provide the same protection for mosquitoes, they rarely shelter there, and therefore we do not treat that area.
Is my TruGreen Mosquito service guaranteed?
Yes. At TruGreen, we know you take pride in your outdoor living space and want it to be a comfortable place for your family, friends and even your pets. We guarantee our science-based treatment to be effective in controlling mosquito populations within 24 hours, and with significant reduction for as long as 30 days after your service. If you’re not 100% satisfied with the results, we’ll re-treat at no additional cost. That’s our promise to you.
I am getting mosquito bites near my garden and pond - why don't you spray these areas?
As a matter of policy, we do not apply treatments on water sources, edible plants, or flowering plants where pollinators forage. However since mosquitoes move from plant to plant as they hunt, we can control mosquito populations on your property through applications on trees and shrubs. Mosquitoes do not shelter in maintained turf areas so we do not treat those areas.
Does TruGreen treat my entire property for pests?
We focus our treatment on common access points, like first-story windows, doors and along the entire foundation of the home. This helps protect against pests that enter the home or reside around the perimeter.
What pests does this program treat?
If it bugs you, we’re here to fix it. The most common pests we treat are ants, boxelder bugs, centipedes, cockroaches, earwigs, kudzu bugs, lady beetles, millipedes, mud daubers, paper wasps, scorpions, sow bugs, spiders and stink bugs.
What insects and pests are not covered by TruGreen’s Perimeter Pest Control?
Perimeter Pest Control does not cover mosquitoes, bedbugs, bees, fleas, German cockroaches, hornets, pharaoh ants, rodents, and ticks. Wood-destroying organisms, including termites, are also not included.
How long does treatment last?
Each treatment is designed to provide two to three months of protection. Our four-treatment program protects your home all year.
When was TruGreen founded?
TruGreen started as a small private company in 1974, operating under our original business name of ChemLawn. In 1979, our corporate headquarters were established in East Lansing, Michigan operating as TruGreen.
