Fire ants, commonly found across the southern United States, earn their name from the painful stings they deliver. One way to tell if you have a fiery infestation is to look for a large group of ants that are reddish-brown to reddish-black and measure between 1/8 to 1/3 inch in length. You will also likely notice dome-shaped mounds of soil scattered across your lawn. A key characteristic of these fire ant mounds is that they will not have an exit hole or a visible entry point.

The mounds fire ants create are not just unsightly—they harm your lawn by smothering grass, and their underground tunnels disturb roots, dry the soil, and cause grass to thin. They are not afraid of claiming your turf as their own and will continue building more mounds if left untreated. Our Fire Ant Control service uses a granular treatment that permeates the ground to combat fire ants and deter them from relocating to another area of your property. We also target high-visibility mounds with a control agent for added protection. It may take approximately 4 weeks for these products to become fully effective.

You should expect to see few, if any, fire ant mounds for up to one year (52 weeks) after your Fire Ant Control service. If any mounds should reappear, we will treat them again at no additional charge to ensure your satisfaction.◆

Absolutely! We do ask that you keep your pets inside your home on scheduled service days and keep them off a treated lawn until the application has dried.

After a service, TruGreen advises customers to allow the application to dry or dust to settle (for granular applications) before families and pets resume enjoying their lawns. Although highly dependent upon temperature and humidity, most liquid products TruGreen uses dry within 1–2 hours.
