The 2021 First Tee College Scholarship Program

Last year, TruGreen launched a partnership with First Tee - a youth development organization using golf as a catalyst for personal growth - in supporting the expansion of the First Tee College Scholarship Program. This year, the program includes alumni pursuing careers in agronomy, plant science and other science-based professions.

With TruGreen as a trustee, the program expansion provides First Tee alumni with valuable opportunities to incorporate their learnings and leadership development into a career in the sciences, like agronomy.

Within the recently announced 2021 First Tee College Scholarship Program class of 12 recipients, TruGreen is excited to share that there are three students aspiring to pursue careers in plant science or other science-based careers:

  • Molly Castle, a 7-year First Tee participant, is attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she will pursue her passion through a major in Agriculture Sciences.
  • Josh Lendach, 13-year First Tee participant, is attending the University of Cincinnati where he plans to major in Environmental Studies while playing golf for The Bearcats.
  • Rebecca Jones, a 6-year First Tee participant, is attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, where she will study Environmental Engineering.

All 12 First Tee alumni have been awarded four-year scholarships, and select students will be paired with a mentor from TruGreen to support their career development, and will receive assistance with internships and full-time employment placement post-graduation.

Throughout the scholarship recipients’ college careers, select TruGreen associates will serve as mentors to students and contribute to professional development and educational sessions, helping to share industry knowledge as the students prepare to take their passions and education into real-world application.

2021 WGC FedEx-St. Jude Invitational and the TruGreen Backyard

Select scholarship recipients will be offered an exclusive, behind-the-scenes agronomy experience at the 2021 World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, TN August 2-8. TruGreen and the tournament will host students for an opportunity to engage with the TPC Southwind Agronomy team and witness how the team prepares the course for world-class competition.

The tournament also recently announced an all-new fan activation area titled “TruGreen Backyard,” a public space giving spectators a welcome respite between the 13th and 14th holes. The TruGreen Backyard will include family playscape areas, inspirations for the outdoor chefs, adult lawn games, garden enhancements and more - showcasing how to “Live Life Outside.”
