After we service your property, you may wonder what to do next. We want to help you achieve the best results. Here are some things you should know.

Tips for a golf course quality lawn.

Water

We recommend giving your lawn 1 inch of water within a few days after your treatment, assuming it hasn’t rained. This helps deliver nutrients to the roots and activates the application. Generally, your lawn needs 1-2 inches per week, which is best over 1-2 sessions.

More Watering Tips

Mow

Wait at least 24 hours after our service to mow. It’s important to mow according to the season and your grass type. Avoid scalping your lawn - meaning don’t cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade in a single session. Also keep your mower blades sharp for the best results.

After a service, TruGreen advises customers to allow the application to dry (or the dust to settle for granular applications), before families and pets resume enjoying their yards. Although highly dependent upon temperature and humidity, most liquid products used by TruGreen dry within 1-2 hours.

For most lawn care products, rainfall before or after an application typically enhances its effectiveness. Water is vital for proper plant health and aids in carrying nutrients into the soil so they can be absorbed by a plant’s root system. TruGreen applications won’t wash away once they are absorbed by the plant or watered into the soil. Water also activates pre-emergent weed control and sub-surface insect control.

For tree and shrub care, the products we use dry quickly in about 20-30 minutes, so as long as they've had a chance to dry, your plants should be protected.

If it rains after a pest or mosquito application, do not worry. Normal rainfall does not impact the effectiveness of these treatments.

TruGreen will typically visit your property every 4-6 weeks to maximize results. Please note that if you have multiple plans, your property may be serviced at different times under each plan. It’s important for us to apply the right products at the right time for the best results. Sometimes, multiple lawn applications will be performed at once to ensure your lawn gets the proper treatment it needs.

The timeframe between tree and shrub applications varies and is often adjusted based on current horticultural conditions. Fertilization happens once in the spring and once in the fall. We may apply fertilizer at the same time as our insect and disease control treatments, which are normally spaced out every 4-6 weeks based on pest and disease activity. Other applications for specialized treatments may occur more frequently.

Yes. The TruGreen Guarantee is included in the TruPro, TruCore and TruNatural lawn care plans and for TruGreen’s TruBarrier, TruDefense and TruShrub programs. This means we will gladly revisit your property between scheduled visits at no additional cost to make necessary adjustments to deliver quality results. For TruDefense, we guarantee our science-based treatment will be effective in controlling mosquito populations within 24 hours, and with a significant reduction in mosquito population for as long as 30 days after your service.

Our specialists are expert-trained and our specialized equipment is designed to treat 1,000 sq. ft. in just one minute! TruGreen's calibrated technology ensures your lawn always receives the right amount of care it needs to thrive - including the proper nutrients, the right amount of product applied, and the right amount of time spent applying the product. This enables TruGreen to efficiently treat your lawn and consistently deliver quality results for our customers.

Every weed is different, and some weeds are more difficult to control than others. For most weeds, you’ll begin to see a decline within 7-14 days. It may take a little longer during cooler and drier conditions, or when more difficult weeds are present. Typical signs of effective weed control include discoloration as well as twisting/curling of weed leaves. Mowing 24 hours after your TruGreen service can help speed up the rate at which you see weeds controlled.

This can be a sign that weed control is working. Weeds compete with the grass on your lawn for nutrients and sunlight. Once weeds are selectively targeted during the TruGreen treatment process, brown and bare areas may develop and create a short-term void until the desired grass reclaims the ground. After that, TruGreen’s goal is to replace these brown or bare spots with healthy turf, and this happens over time. If you notice these areas are getting more pronounced, your TruGreen specialist can help identify the issue. Brown or bare spots can also be related to weather, soil conditions, disease or insects.

Some weeds may show accelerated growth during a specific time in their lifecycle. Weeds will typically start to decline within 7-14 days after treatment, or a little longer during cooler or drier conditions. Challenging weeds may take additional treatments for complete control. Your weeds may also be showing accelerated growth due to the application of lawn fertilizer as part of your plan.

Pre-emergent applications are timed to target and prevent specific weeds from flourishing after germination has occurred. Unfortunately, not all weeds are controlled using a pre-emergent product but will be treated with post-emergent weed applications. Customers find that continuing the program from season to season and year to year is the best way to maintain the lawn's appearance and keep weeds at a minimum.

Taking care of your trees and shrubs is a long-term investment. The time it takes to see results varies based on the unique needs of your trees and shrubs and on the conditions of your property. It normally takes a full year to achieve visible results, such as improved foliage density, flowering, and overall vigor. Rest assured that while on our program, your trees and shrubs are gaining the vital nutrients and protection they need throughout the seasons to help guard against common pests and to promote a healthy landscape for years to come.

While it is not necessary to water immediately after an application, it’s always a good idea to keep your plants hydrated. A regular watering schedule is essential to keeping your trees happy and healthy. When watering landscape plants, use a slow flow of water at low pressure. This allows the soil around the plants to become properly moistened, while other methods result in greater loss of moisture to evaporation. Once you have a watering schedule established, it’s a good idea to regularly check the soil moisture to make sure you’re not over- or under-watering.

Not every plant is susceptible to the same insect and disease pressures. If we skipped a plant, that means there weren't any significant issues that needed to be controlled during that particular visit. Each time we come to your property, we target and treat only those plants that are susceptible to insect or disease problems at that particular time of year. Please note we do not service certain plants like rose bushes or fruits/vegetables and garden plants.

Different pests affect different plants at different times during the growing season. In addition, many pests will have several generations per year, which means they may come back even after successful initial treatment. Ongoing monitoring and treatment will help ensure pests do not cause significant damage. Also, damage will vary from year to year and is impossible to predict, so canceling your service now will leave your plants susceptible to future problems. TruGreen's continuous service will help ensure the health of your landscape plants both today and for the future.

TruBarrier uniquely targets insects that can enter your home. We focus our treatment on common access points, like first-story windows, doors, and along the entire foundation of the home. This helps protect against pests that enter the home or reside around the perimeter of your home’s structure.

For TruDefense, mosquitoes generally seek out shelter in shrubs, mulch, and woodpiles to avoid sun during the day. For the treatment to be effective, we target and treat these areas to ensure we provide effective control. Since the lawn doesn't provide the same protection for mosquitoes, they rarely shelter there, and therefore we do not treat that area. We also do not apply treatments on water sources, edible plants, or flowering plants where pollinators forage.

For Flea, Tick and Outdoor Nuisance Control, fleas and ticks are commonly found on taller grasses, shrubs, and mulched beds. This is why we target and treat these areas of your landscape. They are generally not found in mowed lawns.

The most common pests we treat with TruBarrier are ants, boxelder bugs, centipedes, cockroaches, earwigs, kudzu bugs, lady beetles, millipedes, scorpions, sow bugs, spiders, and stink bugs.

TruBarrier does not cover mosquitoes, bedbugs, bees, fleas, German cockroaches, hornets, pharaoh ants, rodents, and ticks. Wood-destroying organisms, including termites, are also not included.

With TruBarrier, each treatment is designed to provide two to three months of protection. Our four-treatment program protects your home all year.

With TruDefense, you should see results within 24 hours of treatment, and a significant reduction in mosquito population for as long as 30 days after your service.

Remember, your service is guaranteed. We will gladly revisit your property as needed to ensure your satisfaction.

If you have TruDefense and are still noticing biting mosquitoes, this could be because they are traveling from a neighboring property (although mosquitoes typically only travel short distances in their lifetimes). We still guarantee our service will significantly reduce mosquito activity on your property for up to 30 days or we will re-treat at no cost.

TruGreen® will gladly visit your property as often as needed between scheduled visits to make any necessary adjustments and to ensure your satisfaction.
